THE
CMG
ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA
MEN'S
GATHERINGS
The California Men's Gatherings is an educational and social experience
for a large group of 100-400 men. It began as an annual event in 1978.
Currently, there are three annual CMG weekend events held over Memorial
Day weekend (Spring), Labor Day weekend (Summer), and Thanksgiving
weekend (Fall), since 1999. We also have two smaller annual events,
Rancho Cicada and a retreat in Harbin Hot Springs. These smaller events
are more social and currently do not have workshops.
Each of our three annual gatherings is planned by a group of men in a
different area of California. Men in the Los Angeles area plan the
Spring CMG. Men in the San Francisco Bay area and Sacramento plan the
Summer CMG. Men in the San Diego area plan the Fall CMG. There are also
many social events and workshops created throughout the year by the five
area Event Committees.
What is our mission? Our Mission Statement. We are: Men mentoring men to
be men.
What is our vision?
‘Within 3 years, the CMG will be a recognized resource for modeling and
mentoring leadership in the gay community, providing continuity to all
men across the state, to revitalize their spiritual, emotional, and
physical lives through Gatherings and local events.’
What are our activities?
The activities of the California Men's Gatherings, and, in particular,
the community gatherings are designed to inspire creativity and to
promote understanding, trust, respect, intimacy, compassion and love
among men of varying sexual orientations and identities, differently-abled
men, men of all races and ethnic origins, and men of varying religious
traditions and spiritual practices.
The primary activity of the California Men's Gatherings is to create
gatherings in a safe and supportive environment in which men can
confront, risk and experience the challenges and discomfort necessary
for genuine growth, transformation and empowerment as men. (Adopted
January 2002)
Our non-profit status
The California Men's Gatherings Inc (CMG) is incorporated as a
tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization. Donations
to the California Men's Gatherings Inc. are deductible to the fullest
extent allowed by the IRS.
